Climbing a Stairway to Heaven:
It's always interesting seeing how something ends up. This staircase has had many ideas thrown at it, varnish, paint, wax, oil!

The final staircase is: The Spandrel (the paneling underneath)- Danish Oil, The Banister (handrail) - Wax, The Baluster (the guards/spindles) - Dulux Semi Gloss Antique White USA.
Tuscan Vacation:
Retaining the Tuscan feeling of this house, that gives it that warmth and summer appeal.

The walls (ground floor) are Dulux Jodhpur Weathershield Low Sheen, the windows, capping etc is Dulux Clay Bake Weathershield. Upper levels are Dulux Clay Bake.
Heritage Listed:
The only change to this house was the colour of the windows and front door. Gone is the opaque varnish and in is the Porters' Van Heilsing black.

The walls are highlighted in Dulux Jodhpur and Clay Bake Weathershield.
Dramatic Entrance:
When Sterling Painters first arrived at this house, the stairs were carpeted and cover in dust from the plasterers and the ceiling was a hole in the sky.

The walls are Dulux Stowe Low Sheen, and the wood work is Dulux Antique White USA Semi Gloss enamel.
Alexander Keys Interiors:
“Alexandra Keys is a woman on a mission - she says ‘no’ to blindly following trends and a big ‘yes’ to taking the time to finding a personal sense of style.” - Taken from the HIA Home Ideas Show website www.hiahomeideasshow.com.au/design.htm

Sterling Painters helped with painting the stand, using Porters Duchess Satin Oyster on one wall and Dulux low sheen Teal on the other.
Dendy Street:
Bringing warmth & light into the room simply takes the right choice of colours. Gone are the dark feature walls, gone too is the tonally dark ceiling and woodwork.

Sterling Painters used Dulux low sheen Russian Toffee half strength on the walls, Dulux Ceiling Flat and Dulux Super Enamel semi gloss, Chalk USA quarter strength, on the ceilings and woodwork. The feature wall was Dulux Suede Machiatto, first coat rolled and the second cross-hatch brushed.
Edinburgh Street:
Victorian weatherboards, require sanding, sanding and yet more sanding! Preparation is vital, or the end product will never look good. An aspect, generally overlooked, is that the paint isn't just there to look good, it's there to protects and give longevity to the boards too.

Dulux Weathershield low sheen Freemantle Sands was used on the boards. The windows, fretwork and doors used Dulux Weathershield gloss Mojo. The gutters were the traditional Brunswick Green.
Empire Vintage:
Empire Vintage is the result of Lyn Gardener's life long passion for collecting the eclectic, fossicking for the fabulous and striving for the ultimate in glamour and design.

Sterling Painters freshened up the blank canvas, floors and walls, needed to bring the collecting out. More details are to be found in the Jan. 08 edition of Vogue Australia.

Inside Out:
Zuster furniture designer Wilhelmina McCarrol and partner Lorin clearly had brave ideas.
Converted warehouse areas have always poised problems. High ceilings, exposed beams and more than enough preparation.
Please see Inside Out Feb. 08 for more details.
Inside Out:
Providing a blank canvas background.
Sometimes you want to show off your features rather than show off a feature wall. With a bath designed by Deborah Boyd and tiles by Bisazza and obviously furniture and joinery by Zuster, maybe the walls shouldn't be a focal point?

Home Beautiful Designer Room Series III
Supported by the Design Institute of Australia. The Home Beautiful Designer Room Series will once again return to the HIA Home Ideas Show to present an inspiring collection of room designs showcasing the latest in design trends, colour combinations, surfaces, appliances, furnishings, finishes and fittings.
Sterling Painters worked with Craig Medwyn-Ross of Forme, last year's Peoples Choice Top Overall Winner, and with Alexander Keys Interiors, and even painted the main stage for the event. Sterling Painters have also worked with Cooper Robinson Interiors (Fay Cooper picture left), and their room was inspired.
Simple Class...
Why reinvent the wheel?
The existing colour scheme just needed a lift, so the front door changed colour!
The exterior walls are in Dulux low sheen weathershield 'antique white'. And the windows Dulux full gloss enamel 'antique white'.
The front door changed to Porters 'Jaguar' high gloss acrylic.
Home Beautiful HIA Winner:
Craig Medwyn-Ross, interior designer, put together this winning concept for the Home Beautiful 'Home Improvement Australia' 2007 held at Melbourne Exhibition Centre, and won over a competitive field showing his class.
A fusion of class and juxtaposing materials has obviously met with great approval.
Making the Best of a Bad Situation
The major issue with this project was the poor state of the walls and ceiling. Cracks abound and poorly repaired cracks from a previous overhaul. This simply meant preparation, preparation and yet more preparation.
The walls and ceiling are in Dulux Berkshire White low sheen and the paint work is Dulux full gloss enamel White. Low sheen was used instead of a flat paint to make the walls more durable to marking.
Mellow Yellow:
Doing something different demands a lot of courage.
Porter's Distemper paint, Hallumi, was used on the walls, three coats to be precise. This allows for the cracks and faults to develop but not to take over. Porter's Stone Paint, Snow White, was used on the ceiling due to it's poor condition and Stone Paints amazing covering properties.
Major Changes Abound:
From the "70's" to the future. Extensive renovations have taken place to take this home from a wood paneled Austin Powers passion pad to a concept for the future.
The walls and ceilings are in Porters 'Dome' eggshell, and the paintwork in 'Dome' low-sheen. Porters 'Brown Ash' Full Gloss Acrylic for the foyer window, and Porters 'Dome' Full Gloss Acrylic for existing cupboards.
Not just an update, but a relaxed modern blank canvas.
Large areas covered:
Using a half strength paint for the ceilings added height to the rooms in this house. Dulux Whisper White was used throughout. Flat for both the ceilings and walls, and a semi-gloss for the paintwork.
This house had large ceiling spaces to contend with, and making sure they came out perfect was a challenge.
Difficult to reach:
Stairs always pose problems, trying to reach corners that were designed never to be reached!
Getting the balance right, and using the right ladder always helps.
Classic Victorian:
As with all weatherboard house, sanding, sanding and sanding is the norm. Taking the time to sand the boards back always makes the final appearance look great.
Dulux Shipwreak high gloss weathershield was used on the outside, combined with Dulux Fair Bianca, Dulux black weathershield for the gutters and Dulux high gloss acrylic for the windows and doors.
